Because it all was bullshit, it was a goddamn joke, and when I think of you Linda, I hope you fucking choke

Movies give us such a skewed idea of normal human behavior. I was watching this movie Kate and Leopold, standard chick flick where Hugh Jackman gets catapulted forward in time and over the course of about a week falls entirely in love with Meg Ryan. At the end of the week, he has to go back in time, and they BOTH end up going back. It’s very happily ever after, and it all makes perfect sense as you watch it.

Until you think about it afterward. Jumping 100 years back in time is a really drastic leap for some guy you barely know. Even if that guy is charming, and handsome, and has a fantastic accent. What if she got back there and it didn’t work out?? She had no way of getting back, now she’s miserable and alone in 1875, away from everything and everyone she’s ever known. It’s kinda crazy, and the type of decision that would get you labeled a whack job in real life.

Movies are filled with these types of things, no wonder we’re all screwed up. Our expectations are fucked to high hell. Hell, 75% of the behavior in many rom-coms would be labeled stalking in real life.

And, maybe this is just V-Day blues talking, but maybe it’s just all bullshit. Just as it’s absurd to go back in time with some man you barely know, it’s bullshit that there will be some big romantic moment in the rain, or on the beach. It’s bullshit that anyone could love anyone “just the way they are”. It’s…bullshit sentiment, because it sells movies, and greeting cards. But, still bullshit. If people carried on that way in real life, they’d be considered completely insane. But, in movies, in movies it’s just lovely. But, it’s called fiction for a reason..
